There are many misconceptions regarding the concept of the shadow, we consider it evil, negative and something to be avoided. It is not a detached thing that is separate from you, but it’s a part of you which plays a vital pivot in your life.
We all have a shadow walking behind us both in reality and metaphorically- It is the mirror image of ourselves that which we cannot see or we lack for Eg A criminal person’s shadow part will be like tenderness, humility etc and a shy individual shadow type will be assertiveness, confidence e.t.c.
We should know that we are capable of both good and evil, avoiding our dark side determines we are not accepting half dimension of ourselves. Most of us strive for goodness, tranquillity and happiness, but the shadow is not to be seen as our enemy but as our friend, the shadow only becomes hostile when it is ignored or misunderstood.
"It’s not good that is holy, but the union of both good and evil that paves the path to the transcendent".
By definition, a shadow is a part of you that you don’t know, you don’t talk about it but if you talk about it then it's basically no longer a shadow.
A person asked Dr Carl Jung,
How to find your shadow?
and he replied,
"How could you find a dragon which has swallowed you".
Owning your shadow is like owning gold.
Just consider a see-saw, the right side is the side of righteousness, good, culturally acceptable and on the left is the dark side which is an unacceptable or forbidden side, no quality can ever be discarded can only be moved between these two sides of the see-saw, there’s a law that prevails that most of us choose to ignore completely that a see-saw needs to be balanced if we need to stay in psychic equilibrium if one indulges characteristics on the right side they must be balanced by an equal weight on the left side.
"There is a quote that goes with - To act is to Sin, there can’t be light without corresponding darkness, to create is to destroy at the same moment".
In Bharat we balance this prodigy in a beautiful way Brahma is the source of creation, Shiva is the destroyer and Vishnu is the pivot point. It’s not perfection that we should strive for but its wholeness i.e dark and light.
We are presently dealing with the accumulation of a wholesome society that has worshipped its light side and refused the dark, and this residue appears as war, economic crisis, and racial intolerance.
One more example is the concept that there is no duality, everything is intertwined so that the opposite has its meaning. Eg day and night, happiness and sadness, you can only experience day because you vibe what is darkness, you only feel happy because you understand sadness. So it’s fucking wholesomeness.
